War memorial

Here we show the details on our war memorial. You can find out what we know about the men on the war casualties page.

The First World War tablet and wording is as follows:

Great war names

IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR, 1914-1919
J.H.Austin, A.A.Austin, W.Bantick, J.Biddis, A.Bloyce, J.E.Bourne, H.Collis, H.French, F.French, A.Gosling, H.G.Harvey, G. Manning, B.Mulley, L.A.Nicholl, F.Rogers, G.H.Spraggins, A.Sharpe, L.Tatham, W.Thornton
THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE.

Notes:

  1. The full names are given on the wooden plaque inside the church. This plaque carries a further name, Walter Amos Chaplin.
  2. The stone memorial says "G. Manning" but the wooden plaque in the church says Charles, as expected. There is rather an unusual scenario in that the same Charles Manning is also commemorated on the Little Bromley memorial.

The Second World War tablet and wording is as follows:

Second war names

1939 - 1945
F.A.G. Chaplin, F.T.Miniken, H.W.Polson, K.C.Polson, A.F. Sparrow

We are trying to build a more complete history of all these brave men. Please get in contact if you are interested or can help with any information.
